Just say no to a Bonus Room

The bonus room.

In most new homes it’s a given that there will be a large room for nothing and anything above the garage.

But I must point out the obvious.

The bonus room only exists because most homes are built without a particular person or family in mind. And when we don’t know the needs, personalities, or dreams of the people who will live there then we “give” them one large blank space to make their own.

What people actually need are human spaces; meaning spaces that are intentionally sized, illuminated, and located to meet the needs of those who live there.

So, just say no to a bonus room but a huge yes (and a hug) to any of these spaces that meet your needs:

• Office

• Schoolroom

• Lego nook

• Library

• Gameroom

• Studio

• Playroom

• Theater
